What Is SC Score?
The SC Score is our exclusive performance metric designed to help you identify the most statistically reliable handicappers on SportsCapping.com. Short for “SportsCapping Score,” it’s a custom-built variation of the Z-score—a standard measure used in statistics to evaluate how far a data point deviates from the mean.
In our case, it measures how likely it is that a handicapper’s winning percentage is due to actual skill—not just random variance.
How It Works
The SC Score compares each handicapper’s record against what you’d expect from flipping a coin (i.e., 50% win rate). It then adjusts for volume (number of picks made) and consistency over time. The more games a handicapper wins above 50%—and the more picks they log—the higher their SC Score will be.
-
An SC Score around 0.0 indicates performance close to random chance.
-
An SC Score of 2.0 suggests a 95% confidence the capper is beating the odds.
-
An SC Score over 4.0 implies a 99%+ probability that the capper has true predictive skill—not luck.
Why It Matters
Winning percentage alone doesn’t tell the whole story—especially if a capper only posts a handful of picks. The SC Score rewards both winning AND reliability. A 60% win rate over 1,000 picks is far more impressive than 70% over 20. The SC Score reflects that difference.
In short, the higher the SC Score, the more likely a handicapper is to keep winning long term.
