Jack's Free Pick Wednesday: North Carolina -9.5
The North Carolina Tar Heels have the rest advantage over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish today. They are also highly motivated to win by margin to try and make the NCAA Tournament as they are squarely on the bubble right now.
Notre Dame is coming off a 55-54 win yesterday over a Pitt team that looked to have quit down the stretch of the season. Burton, Davis and Allocco all played at least 34 minutes for the Fighting Irish yesterday.
Notre Dame is short-handed without Braeden Shrewsberry (14.0 PPG) making these back-to-back spots even more difficult. Now they have to take on a UNC team that will test those tired legs by pushing the pace. The Tar Heels rank 30th in adjusted tempo this season.
The Tar Heels have gone 6-1 SU & 5-2 ATS in their last seven games overall to give themselves a chance to make the NCAA Tournament. They even took Duke to the wire in their lone loss. Each of their last five wins have come by 11 points or more, and I expect them to win this game by double-digits as well. Bet North Carolina Wednesday.

Playing North Carolina in any March tournament is a difficult task to ask of anyone. But playing them in Charlotte is going to make it near impossible for Notre Dame. Yes, this is a lot of points as the Tar Heels are laying better than seven-points here in this matchup. But they have dominated this rivalry, taking eight of the last 10 straight up, and covering six of those 10 meetings. The Fighting Irish started to surge a little bit recently, winning three in a row, and covering three of their last four. The Tar Heels ended a six-game straight up win streak in which they covered their final five contests, before running into the wall, better known as the Bue Devil's back on March 8, and getting embarrassed on the road, 82-69. I think they have to come in here and make a statement, for sure. Please understand based on most projections, they need victories here in the ACC Tournament to have a chance at an at-large bid for the NCAA Big Dance Tournament. Not just victories, but authoritative victories. They own one of the best offenses in the nation accounting for over 81.7-points per game. They are extremely accurate overall from the floor, hitting 48% as a team, and they have a quartet of guards all either averaging or flirting with double-digits. This is a talented team. They leave a little bit to be desired down low in the post. But I really do think this is a team that not just needs to win…but make a statement in each matchup during this tournament. It's a lot of points. But like it with UNC. Thank you.
Notre Dame and North Carolina finished their season strong. The Irish has won three in a row while the Tarheels won six of their last seven down the stretch. UNC won 74-73 victory i South Bend earlier this year. During their strong finish, Carolina left no doubt in the games, winning by an average of 13.4 points. Braeden Shrewsberry scored 16 points for the Irish in the first meeting but will miss this game. Notre Dame had a tough game yesterday and might not have much left. Carolina is trying to make a case for the Dance and will not want to sit around on selection Sunday sweating it out.
